If you’re building cosplay in South Florida right now, these are the events to plan your build timeline around. Deadlines matter: a build started in September needs a clear completion target to arrive finished rather than half-assembled.
Major Florida Conventions: Fall and Winter 2026
Supercon Miami
Miami Beach Convention Center. Typically runs late September to October. One of Florida’s largest anime and pop culture conventions with strong cosplay competition programming. The venue’s location in Miami Beach means outdoor heat exposure at entry and between buildings. PETG over PLA for anything that will be outside. Check the Supercon Miami website for 2026 specific dates as programming details are announced in summer.
MegaCon Orlando
Orange County Convention Center, Orlando. MegaCon runs multiple events across the year but the fall event is a significant gathering. Large venue with good indoor climate control throughout. PLA viable for all-indoor builds. Prop check line can be long on day one — arrive early or use the pre-opening prop check window if available.
Holiday Matsuri
Hyatt Regency Orlando. Late December, typically the third or fourth weekend. One of the premier anime conventions in the Southeast with a cosplay competition that attracts high-level craftsmanship. The winter timing means cooler outdoor temperatures, which makes large armor and elaborate headpieces more manageable to wear. December also means the maximum build time from a September start: approximately 12-14 weeks, which is sufficient for a full armor set built methodically.
Tampa Bay Comic Con / Anime Day
Tampa Convention Center. Multiple events through the year. Good venue for a first outing with a new build before bringing it to a larger event.
Pensacon
Pensacola, Florida. February timing for 2027, but worth planning for if you’re in the Panhandle. Known for a strong welcoming community for cosplay of all skill levels.

The Holiday Matsuri window is the most generous for ambitious builds. A full armor set with helmet, chest, pauldrons, gauntlets, and greaves is achievable in 14 weeks when printing runs nightly and finishing work progresses on weekends. Start September 1 and you have buffer for reprints, design changes, and the inevitable week where life interferes with the build.
Florida-Specific Build Considerations by Season
September build sessions: South Florida is still in humid summer weather. Filament storage is critical. Desiccant in every sealed bag. Desiccant recharged monthly. Air conditioning in the print room prevents ambient temperature fluctuations that affect PEI adhesion.
October finishing work: Paint drying times improve significantly as humidity drops in October. Primer, base coats, and sealer all behave better than in peak summer conditions.
December wear conditions: Holiday Matsuri at the Hyatt Regency Orlando has consistent indoor AC throughout the venue. PLA is fully viable for all build components. Outdoor temperatures in late December average 65-75°F in Orlando, meaning outdoor queuing is comfortable even in full armor.
