Napkin rings and trivets are two of the most printable Thanksgiving hosting accessories because they’re entirely indirect food contact: a trivet sits under a hot dish, never touching the food itself, and a napkin ring holds folded cloth, not food. This guide covers practical dimensions and a few serving accessory designs that round out a hosting set.
Napkin Rings
A standard folded dinner napkin ring needs an interior diameter of 35-45mm depending on napkin thickness and fold style. Design as a simple ring or an open-back C-shape for easier napkin insertion. Add decorative elements (a leaf wrap motif, a small acorn or pumpkin accent) on the exterior face only — these are purely decorative add-ons with no functional requirement.
Batch print 8-12 rings per plate load. eSUN Matte PLA in seasonal colors (burnt orange, deep red, gold) needs no painting for a finished tablescape look.
Trivets: Heat Resistance Matters Here
A trivet sits directly under a hot pot, dish, or pan, often at temperatures well above PLA’s 60°C deflection point. This is one Thanksgiving application where material choice genuinely matters for safety and function, not just food contact concerns.
Use PETG minimum, ASA preferred for any trivet that will sit under a dish straight from a 350-400°F oven. PLA trivets will visibly deform and can permanently warp under a hot casserole dish. PETG handles occasional exposure to 200-220°F surface contact temperatures without issue. For repeated heavy use with very hot cookware, ASA’s higher heat tolerance is the safer long-term choice.
Design trivets as an open lattice or geometric pattern rather than a solid disc — this reduces material use, allows some airflow for cooling, and looks more intentional than a solid slab.
Serving Accessories
Serving spoon and ladle rests: A small printed rest that holds a serving spoon at an angle off the tablecloth, preventing drips. Never touches food, just the handle of the utensil.
Gravy boat lid stands: A small ring that the gravy boat lid rests in upright while serving, avoiding a sticky lid set directly on the tablecloth.
Buffet label stands: Small card-slot stands placed in front of each dish on a buffet table, labeling what’s in each dish for guests with allergies or preferences. Purely informational, zero food contact.
